History Lesson

" My mom has gotten lazy. She is clearly handing this job over to me. Perhaps I'll change the name to Bella's Dog Blog. I was laying down with my best friend Lily, after a hard day of playing and she tells me to write another post. I guess people like what I have to say."

"Moms getting together a large donation for the homeless animals. She had everything laying out today trying to organize it and Lily stole a toy. I saw the whole thing and didn't have anything to do with it. Mom didn't get mad though. I really can't wait to take the donations to the shelter. Moms got a lot of people to donate to help the cause. We both wish we could save all of them."

" I don't really know what it's like to be homeless. I was living in a bad home for a few months, but at least it was a home. So many animals are out on the streets or have to be put to sleep. I don't think people in this world grasp the idea of breeding. Why are so many people breeding? Aren't there enough homeless dogs in the world? Makes me so sad to know that some animals will never know what it's like to live the good life."

" Mom took me to work tonight. I met a cat who could have taken me and Lily both, even with the cone of shame... I wouldn't stand a chance. Mom had to make sure her fluids were running, and she almost took moms hand off. I backed off respectfully.  I also met a little puppy who was also named Bella. She yipped and licked my face. I think she weighted 2 pounds. Mom and I both liked her much better. Mom said she was a Yorkie."

"Mom wants to educate people and help them understand that Bully Breeds aren't bad dogs.  Did you know that my breed the American Pit Bull Terrier was a result of crossing the BULL DOG and ENGLISH TERRIER ? Bull Dogs started out as the fighting dogs. They used them for their size and strength. If you have ever met a bull dog you will quickly find that they are lazy and don't like to use their strength much. This is why they were crossed with the Terrier.. to get ME! The American Pit Bull Terrier is good at fighting due to strength and loyalty to their owners. It does not mean we want to do it. Those poor dogs are brain washed. They are beaten and killed if they do not listen."

" If people took the time to learn more about BULLY BREEDS they would quickly learn that we are very lovable dogs. We only want to please our owners and do what we are told. Mom recommends the book LOST DOGS to all our blog readers. It it all about Michael Vick's ( hate that guy) fighting dogs. Did you know that all the dogs they rescued from his home ( except two) were saved and all passed their good citizens tests? That's AMAZING! "

" The above link is a game. You must find the American Pit Bull Terrier out of all the dogs in the pictures. GOOD LUCK."

" Mom says she will post more on the history of the American Pit Bull Terrier later. Please look for her posts. And give the BULLY BREEDS A CHANCE!"

Me and Lily ready for the game!

Hi I'm Bella!

"Hello Everyone! My name is Bella. My mom asked me to help her with her blog, so here I am. I am here to help you all see things from the dogs side. I think I am the BEST pup for the job."

"I am an American Pit- Bull Terrier. I am white with Brown spots. People are scared of me, although I am not quite sure why. I am a really good girl... well most of the time. I was born into a pretty bad home. I don't remember much about my past, because I live in the moment and it isn't important to me. Mom said I was covered in fleas and had no shots at the age of 5 months. My mom and dad saved my life. I was living with a mean little dog, Mom said it's called a chihuahua. He growled at me when I got close to him. To be honest, I was a little scared of him. (Don't tell Lily)  The guy who bought me, got me from a drug dealer who sold me for drug money.... He left me tied to the door knob for 12 hours straight. When my mom and dad came to rescue me, I had no idea I was going to the best home EVER!!!!"

" Mom and Dad brought me to my forever home and I was in Heaven. I was living with two other pups. A big black and tan dog named Roxanne and a FAT yellow one named Lily. These were my new sisters. I really had a lot of fun with them. Roxanne was older, but she still gave me a run for my money. ( I don't really know what the means, but mom says it all the time.) Lily was all over the place. She taught me how to chase critters in the yard. I really loved my new sisters. This was a really fun place to live."

" It's been over 3 years and life is good. Roxanne passed away last year. I miss her a lot. I used to snuggle with her all the time. She taught me a lot about people food and begging to get what ever you want. ( and boy does it work!) Lily is my best bud. We play hard and sleep harder."

" I really want to help my mom get the message out to people... that I am not bad and my breed isn't bad. Being a pup I have no idea what the difference in breeds is, it's not really a concern to me. I think the real problem people need to worry about is cats. My mom takes me into work with her, and they hiss at me and make me RUN the other way. We have a BIG FAT white cat that lives behind me. He got in my yard once, I ran up to him trying to be brave... but he hissed and I had to run back to my mom. (Lily's scared too.)"

" Mom says I am going to write a lot more if people like it. For a pup I have a lot to say. She really gets upset when people talk down about the American Pit Bull Terrier. We make a great team. Were going to change some people's views."

" Have a good night everyone. It's time for my 3rd nap of the evening."

Animals bring so much joy in life.....

I'm at work and the phone rings....

Client calls with a sick animal, they are told to come in NOW. It just so happens it one of my favorites. They are vomiting, lethargic, and not eating. Tests confirm cancer.....

On the ride home from work all I can think of is the animal and their family. At dinner I'm telling my family and talking all about it.... Later that night I am crying to Dave.....

Working with animals is a job you never really stop "working." Your heart is always thinking of them. There are so many emotions you get with the job. You are always faced with the good, bad, and the ugly.... Happy for the elder couple who just adopted the sweetest kitten, touched when the client you haven't seen in years just got a new dog and sad for the friendships that end due to death.

When I started working in a hospital, I never thought I'd be okay with euthanasia. This was a difficult obstacle I had to overcome...
But working with these amazing animals everyday, it brings me comfort to be there with them for the last seconds of their lives. I am strong for their families and for them. I cry right along side of the family and make sure their BEST FRIEND is as comfortable as possible. This is never something that will be easy for me.

Animals have brought me so much joy and meaning to my life. Every patient and family touches my heart in a different way. Dogs and Cats have so much to teach us ALL about LIFE. Growing stronger and more care- free everyday, is the credit of all the animals who have touched my life.

When I arrive home ... I run in the door and sit right on the floor, my Bella and Lily kiss me all over and it brings me much delight.

Dogs live in the moment everyday... they don't care if your well off or just getting by.... they don't care what you look like... they will LOVE you everyday for the REST of their life. Anytime you need a hug they are the friend you need. You never have to worry about your dog talking about you, or cheating on you. They are forever in the moment... forever your LIFE LONG friend.

Even if they chew on your new boots you just got for Christmas... and carry them around like a toy... ( BELLA!!!)  You LAUGH it off and LOVE them just the same. Loving them is the strongest of love. You can yell at them and in a few minutes you are BOTH over it!

If I can help one person who reads this blog realize they are special and have an important place in this world, I'd be happy... my dogs and the patients I have met have opened my eyes to so many
amazing things.

BE HAPPY!!! Enjoy the little things! Open your eyes through your dogs eyes.
